As the 2011 market season comes to a close, we thank each and every one of you – our sponsors, local businesses, patrons, vendors and volunteers who were instrumental in producing a very successful season.  QAFM is a unique community-managed market and your support shows what we can accomplish together.

Despite getting a late start this year, the market continued to thrive and to grow.  We, as a whole, provided access to Washington farmers and their fresh, healthy food, hosted food education programs for children and adults, offered a rich variety of ready-to-eat meals and a diversity of free musical programs, all while being a gathering place for our community and greater Seattle.  Our impact on the local economy is substantial and we are proud of our results this season.

• Hosted 41 vendors (59% farmers/41% prepared food)
• Average customers per market – 2513 (74% increase over 2010)
• Average vendor sales per market – $22, 231 (9.0% increase over 2010)
• Three jobs created and filled by QA residents
• 25 volunteers donated 299 hours.
• 1857 pounds of food donated to Trinity Methodist Saturday Soup Kitchen and Queen Anne Methodist.
• Donated booth space 21 times to 13 non-profit organizations
• Introduced EBT-matching program to double the value of food stamps
• New web site designed and content re-created
• New Facebook site introduced (450 “friends” reached in 4 months)
• New Twitter feed introduced (225 followers secured in 4 months)
• Hosted 30 chefs and food educators
• Brought in 21 musicians for 29 performances
• Featured two Tae Kwon Do and Yoga classes, and a community Talent Show

Just off Queen Anne Ave in Upper Queen Anne at West Crockett Street is where you can find one of the nicest farmer’s markets in Seattle.  The colors are beautiful and the wide range of offerings will truly dazzle you.

In addition to the fresh fruit, veggies, and flowers you would expect to find at a farmer’s market, you will also find many other offerings at the Queen Anne Farmer’s Market.

You also might as well come hungry because some of the best freshly prepared food vendors are there, too!

Finally the weather is cooperating so the Queen Anne Farmer’s Market was an absolute delight to go to tonight!

According to a Seattle Times article today, people are searching for homes that are closer to the city’s amenities because now homes are more affordable. They want to live closer to work, their friends, schools, and community. So buyers want the whole package and now they can take their pick from some amazing homes on the market right now.

At Cooper Jacobs, we’ve noticed walkability has been a big trendsetter lately. Our buyers want to walk to grocery stores, bus stops, theaters, great local restaurants and even schools. We use www.walkscore.comfrequently to help our buyers get a better idea of what is less than 1 mile around the property.

Unfortunately, the suburbs have dipped a bit in the red, dropping 2%. High gas prices back in 2007 didn’t help homes being foreclosed on in these areas either. Less time in the car is what people want. They no longer have to drive until they find a home to financial afford.

The Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle just had Old John Hay renamed to Queen Anne Elementary as reported by the Seattle Times. According to the Times, Queen Anne Elementary will reopen as an option school. The school originally opened in 1905 and has a long history in the Queen Anne neighborhood.  It is one of Seattle’s oldest schools and luckily got some love and care after falling into complete disrepair.   Today, it is a gorgeous focal point in the neighborhood – you can find it at 411 Boston St. on Queen Anne Hill.

Queen Anne is one of the five Seattle neighborhoods being offered $50,000 by CleanScapes to reduce their overall garbage, recycling, and yard waste output. Queen Anne, Magnolia, Downtown Seattle, Capitol Hill and South Seattle were the five Seattle neighborhoods chosen for the contest because their output is higher than other neighborhoods in Seattle.

According to CleanScapes the neighborhoods North of the Ship Canal produce about 18 pounds of garbage per week and those South of the Canal are at about 22 pounds per week per house.  The goal is to of course reduce output of waste, but also to probably raise some major awareness.

Cancel junk mail, catalogs, and the phone book:  http://www.DMAchoice.org is a great place to go for canceling junk mail – I personally did it and it doesn’t take a ton of time.

Print double sides

Mulch your grass clipping instead of putting them in the green bin
